AVA are proud to re-launch our Child to Parent Abuse training offer:

Course Description

An interactive, practical day on child to parent abuse. When we use the term parent, we refer to biological and non-biological, including carers. The training is designed to raise awareness of the topic and provide participants with an opportunity to explore the dynamics of child to parent abuse, including as a profile of domestic abuse.

Information will be provided on definitions, background theories, prevalence, risk factors, case studies, behaviour patterns and provide examples of current intervention models and best practice as shared by Peer Researchers who worked with us on our Hear ME adult child to parent abuse research project. Further information about Hear ME is available on the AVA website linked here

The training aims to increase awareness and knowledge as well as enhance practitioners’ ability to understand and respond more effectively in a trauma informed way, when supporting families experiencing child to parent abuse.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the training you will be able to:

  • Utilise background theory, statistics and risk factors to improve your knowledge and understanding of child to parent abuse;
  • Identify dynamics and contexts of child to parent abuse, including thinking about factors more holistically;
  • Recognise patterns of abusive behaviour using example case studies;
  • Identify barriers and approaches to engage with children and parents in relation to this issue;
  • Develop your practice including how to have these conversations and know of current available support and tools, including the good practice guidance co-produced with the Hear ME Peer Researchers.

Further details about Hear ME is available on the AVA website.
