Course description:

Managing the secondary effects of working with trauma will help professionals understand and identify the dynamics and psychological issues that come from work with survivors of trauma.

By the end of the course, learners will:

• Have a better understanding about the impact of working with trauma survivors on the worker
• Have increased knowledge of the dynamics of the working relationships between survivors and front line staff
• Be able to describe key self care strategies for when issues arise from supporting survivors
• Have greater awareness of their achievements and goals in relation to supporting trauma survivors
• Have confidence and skills to promote health and well-being at work
• Have an action plan for addressing secondary trauma in future.
This webinar will be presented by Shirley McNicholas and our Director of Training and Consultancy: 
Shirley is the founder of  Drayton Park Women’s Crisis House and developed the ‘Drayton Park Model’ in close collaboration with women who have used services. She has worked in mental health services for 35 years and has campaigned for women only provision, delivered training on a range of issues such as domestic and sexual abuse and more recently on trauma informed approaches. She has been Women’s Lead for Camden and Islington NHS Trust for over many years and is co chair of the Trauma Informed Network in the Trust. She is also a freelance consultant and trainer in trauma informed approaches and organisations such as AVA.
