Background
This day of training has been created by AVA Project and commissioned by the Home Office. It is based on up-to date research and evidence drawn from a wide evidence base. The research includes the voices of victims/survivors and perpetrators to ensure that the best practice recommendations in this course are backed up with evidence. Similarly the training materials that will be used during the course have been developed using feedback from front line professionals.
Course Description & Learning Objectives
This course will aim to fill gaps in practitioners knowledge whilst also sharing knowledge through the group discussions.
- Understand the impact alcohol use can have in relationships where domestic abuse is present and understand that the impact of alcohol can be different for perpetrators and victim/survivors
- Feel more confident to actively seek to identify where alcohol use and domestic abuse are co-occurring
- Recognise key indicators of co-existence of domestic abuse and alcohol use
- Know the key things to consider when risk assessing when domestic abuse and alcohol use are co-occurring
- Understand best practice responses for both victims/survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse
- Understand the nature of domestic abuse perpetrator behaviour
- Understand the impact of domestic abuse on victims/survivors
- Understand how attitudes and beliefs about alcohol use and domestic abuse can impact on practice
Who should attend this training?
This course is only open to front line professionals in alcohol and substance use services who come into contact with victims/survivors and/or perpetrators of domestic abuse/violence and bookings will be accepted on this basis.
