This two-part and interactive course designed and delivered by AVA and Beyond the Streets will help participants increase their understanding of the perspectives and language that exists to talk about prostitution/the sex industry and will equip participants with an understanding of the value of a trauma informed approach.
Day 1: 4th November
Day 2: 11th November
Learning objectives:
- To increase awareness of the complexity of the sex industry in the UK
- Explore differing perspectives and language and how this impacts services
- Understand who is most affected by this issue and the benefits of framing it as Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)
- Gain an awareness of the barrier’s women face in accessing help and/or exiting
- Feel more confident asking women about their experiences of selling sex/survival sex/ the sex industry
- Understand the impact of trauma on the brain and the body
- Explore the benefits of a trauma informed approach in this context
- Reflect on what this means for me and my organisation.
Who should attend?
The course is relevant for any practitioner whose work brings them into contact with women who have experienced multiple disadvantage and would like to learn more about the issue and what this means for their role in helping women.
Trainers
This course is co-delivered by Hannah Sansom, AVA Training & Development Manager, with 10 years experience working on GBV prevention and response both internationally and in the UK.
Josephine Knowles, the Co – Director of Beyond the Streets, with 25 years of experience of learning.
All our training aims to making the sector stronger and enable learning about a trauma-informed and women-centered approach. We ask that all who attend respect this intention as this event is not provided as an opportunity to debate the various political views of the sex industry.
