This FREE training is offered as part of the WiSER Project.

This online course will help professionals to understand the key aspects of a trauma informed approach and provides knowledge and tools that will help learners to enhance their practice when working with clients who experience multiple disadvantage.

This course will give learners an opportunity to explore the links between violence and abuse, problematic substance use and mental health. Learners will reflect on their own practice and take away an individual action plan for developing their work with this client group.

This training session provides an inter-sectional look at the issues faced by this client group and uses the experiences of women to highlight how services and professionals can help.

By the end of the day, learners will:

  • Understand the term multiple disadvantage and have explored links between experiences of violence and abuse, mental ill-health and substance use
  • Understand trauma and how experiences of trauma impact people
  • Understand the link between early experiences of trauma and the development of emotional regulation
  • Learn tools to manage high levels of emotion
  • Consider how to help clients understand the impact of trauma on them
  • Understand the difficulties clients experiencing multiple disadvantage face in engaging with support services
  • Consider the impact of working with people who have experienced trauma on workers and consider how to keep themselves healthy
  • Understand the need for an intersectional approach to working with the client group
