Finally, you will create a plan on becoming trauma informed and introducing a trauma-informed ethos to your service(s).

OPEN – CPD Accredited Online Interactive Training: Complicated Matters: The Links Between Experiences of Domestic & Sexual Violence, Substance Use & Mental Distress

Domestic and sexual violence, substance use and mental ill-health are three issues which often co-exist. And when they do, things can become complicated. This online training is designed to ‘uncomplicate’ matters by raising awareness about how domestic abuse, sexual violence, mental health and substance use issues intersect and to offer effective ways to engage with individuals and families who are affected by these issues.

This course aims to provide counsellors and counselling service managers with the confidence to adapt therapeutic support to survivors of sexual violence. We will cover an understanding of pre-trial therapy, how to ensure that we as therapists protect and empower our clients within the confines of the criminal justice system and give space to address our own feelings relating to pre-trial therapy.

The training is designed to raise awareness of the topic and provide participants with an opportunity to explore the dynamics of child to parent abuse, including as a profile of domestic abuse. Information will be provided on definitions, background theories, prevalence, risk factors, case studies, behaviour patterns and provide examples of current intervention models and best practice as shared by Peer Researchers who worked with us on our Hear ME adult child to parent abuse research project.

Online Interactive Training: Counselling Skills for People Working with Survivors

This course explores the means to develop a powerful working relationship with clients who have experienced violence against women and girls, through respect, fostering control, setting boundaries and being trustworthy. Concepts such as non-judgmental acceptance and empowerment are explored. There will be opportunities to practise basic counselling skills including listening and responding in ways that empower clients.
