Held in conjunction with Against Violence and Abuse and King’s College London, this free event will be of interest to practitioners working in the field of addiction, mental health or domestic and sexual violence and those who commission such services.
Come and hear from researchers and clinicians delivering innovative approaches to support women with experiences of problematic substance use and trauma. The speakers will focus on the best practice implications for substance misuse services. You will also hear from women involved in the pilot of a group work programme which aims to address interpersonal trauma and substance use.
The speakers include:
Dr Lucy Allwright, (Project Manager, Against Violence and Abuse) who will give an introduction to trauma-informed practice and the current national policy initiatives.
Dr Karen Bailey (King’s College London) who will talk about her experiences of piloting the Seeking Safety groupwork programme in a substance misuse service and who will be joined by some of the facilitators and participants who took part.
Luke Mitcheson (Clinical Psychologist, SLAM).
Dr Akima Thomas (Clinical Director, Women and Girls Network) who will talk about her experiences of delivering PTSD treatment to women with problematic substance use within the context of the women-centred Holistic Empowerment Model.
