The 2.6 Challenge, will launch on Sunday 26th of April – what should have been the date of the 40th edition of the London Marathon. From Sunday 26 April, the public will be asked to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate.
At AVA, we would be delighted if anyone wanted to donate to us as part of this campaign. You can select to donate or fundraise for us through Virgin Money Giving, just search Against Violence and Abuse here.
During this time occurrences of abuse have risen and people are struggling with their mental health in various ways. The surge of fundraising is symptomatic of these issues, both in terms of organisations needing finical aid and individuals wanting to use their time at home to make a difference.
Any donations we receive during this will go towards our app Breathing Space: A Digital a Tool for Survivors. Covid-19 has made it incredibly clear how necessary and valuable 24hr digital support is to those experiencing abuse or living with the effects of trauma. We believe this app to be vital. We are 50% towards our target and have until the 15th of July to meet our goal. You can read more about the app here.
At AVA, we’d like to remind anyone reading this who is thinking of completing the 2.6 challenge or other fundraising campaign that throughout this time your self-care is the priority. Often in life, we give more than we have to give, and right now your mental and physical energy reserves may be more drained and in need of extra care than normal. It may be self-care to complete the 2.6 challenge, fundraise and donate to a charity; it might be self-care not to. Please take the time and occupy the space of your own self-care first and foremost.
Thank you in advance if you do decide to donate to Breathing Space.
